About Us

About Fontana Energy Associates

Our work in energy development covers the entire development cycle. Whether we are leading development or supporting our clients’ internal resources, we bring a strong and geographically diverse experience base.

We have developed natural gas generation projects as well as large (100-500 MW) renewable energy generation projects across North America and around the world. We are currently developing in some of the most active and competitive markets, including the western and southeastern US. Our work supporting power generation for data centers spans multiple geographies.

We routinely advise our clients on the acquisition of single projects or portfolios and often complete development of the acquired assets, which are in early- or mid-stage development. Our advisory role continues for many projects where we serve as part of the owner’s team during construction and commissioning.

As energy storage has emerged, we have been active in developing both solar-plus-storage and stand-alone energy storage. We have familiarity with multiple storage technologies and understand the key issues that can complicate development.

Our clients routinely look to us for strategic insights, whether it is identifying target markets, developing permitting approaches, or evaluating the right technology.

Fontana Energy Associates is committed to conducting our business with integrity, conscientiousness, and discretion, with the final and overriding goal of delivering results for our clients. We believe that having a holistic view of the environmental, public, and energy-market impacts of our services is vital to running an ethically responsible business.

Our Executive Team

Perry Fontana

Power industry veteran Perry Fontana founded Fontana Energy Associates in 2009. Perry was formerly Vice President, Projects at Ausra, Inc., with responsibility for site acquisition, permitting, and development. At Ausra, he acquired sites and completed early-stage development for over 2 GW of solar thermal generation. Before his work at Ausra, Perry was Vice President of URS Corporation, responsible for its Electric Power Business in the western United States and international operations. At URS, Perry assisted a number of the major independent power producers and global financial institutions in completing early- and late-stage development activities. He has directed the development of natural gas, coal, biomass, geothermal, wind, solar, and gasification projects totaling over 10 GW of installed generation worldwide.

Perry has extensive experience with the development and permitting of complex generation projects. He has worked in 25 countries and has served as an expert witness for several independent power producers, the U.S. Department of Energy, multilateral lending institutions, and numerous multinational companies. He has permitted numerous power projects with the California Energy Commission and notably served as a key developer for a 1280 MW gas-fired power plant in Nevada. He has also advised clients on both the sell- and buy-side of asset acquisitions, including the purchase of over 4,000 MW of generation.

As recent load growth has occurred, both organically and in response to the needs of data centers and bitcoin mining operations, Perry has been very active, working closely with major investors to design development plans that expedite permitting and meet schedule requirements.
